# THE CHALLENGE
Construction progress claim reviews can require significant manual effort.
Quantity Surveyor reports may differ considerably in structure, terminology and presentation. Information can be spread across spreadsheets, PDFs and scanned documents, requiring users to identify and organise relevant financial and project information before it can be reviewed alongside other project records.
This can involve repetitive data entry, document interpretation and cross-checking.
IPEX identified an opportunity to use artificial intelligence to assist with the document-understanding component of this workflow while maintaining the structured financial controls and transparency expected within the IPEX platform.
THE IPEX APPROACH
IPEX uses Claude within QS Verify to assist with understanding and structuring information contained within Quantity Surveyor documentation.
Claude can interpret information contained across differently formatted documents and help convert relevant information into structured data that can be used by the IPEX platform.
This allows IPEX to reduce the amount of manual document processing traditionally required when reviewing complex Quantity Surveyor reports.
Where contextual interpretation is required, Claude can also assist IPEX in understanding relationships between information contained within the source documentation and other relevant project records.
Once the relevant information has been structured, it is processed through IPEX’s proprietary verification and governance framework.
This separation is important.
Claude assists with document interpretation and information structuring, while IPEX retains control of the underlying verification methodology, financial rules, workflow logic, and reporting processes.
The result is an AI-assisted workflow designed to improve efficiency without relying on generative AI alone for financial verification or decision-making.
